Title : Modelling transient events from particle acceleration in relativistic jets and black hole magnetospheres
Teams : ASTRE, HRAA (LIRA)

Fast variability in AGNs is a key class of phenomena in relativistic high-energy astrophysics that might bring crucial insight into the understanding of a variety of fields : extreme plasmas, high-energy radiation processes, strong-field gravity. Depending on the timescale, these processes might be triggered either in the vicinity of the central supermassive black hole or along the relativistic jets of AGNs. This PhD aims at studying both kinds of phenomena, with a particular emphasis on M 87, one of the few misaligned radio galaxies detected at TeV energies, exhibiting very high energy flares despite not being categorized as a blazar.
