In France, men account for 84% of perpetrators of fatal road accidents, 90% of individuals convicted by the justice system, 86% of those implicated in homicide cases, and 97% of perpetrators of sexual violence, among other figures.
This pattern comes at a cost : a direct one for the state, which spends tens of billions of euros each year on police, judicial, medical, and educational services to address these issues ; and an indirect one for society, which must deal with the suffering of victims.
Lucile Peytavin questions the reasons behind this overrepresentation of men among perpetrators of violence and risky behavior, and attempts to estimate the financial consequences of all these harms. What is the cost of masculinity when it is turned into a dominant ideology ? Would we all not benefit from behaving… more like women ?!

Matheuses : Les filles, avenir des maths

Clémence Perronnet, Claire Marc et Olga Paris-Romaskevich, CNRS Editions

This book is a meeting point between three worlds : that of women, that of mathematics, and that of sociology.
It presents a sociological study conducted among 45 sixteen-year-old high school girls who took part in the “Les Cigales” workshops—mathematics training sessions in a single-gender setting, organised by members of the Institute of Mathematics of Marseille and the Laboratory of Computer Science and Systems at the International Center for Mathematical Meetings in Marseille.
Through ten chapters that provide scientific answers to specific questions, Matheuses examines inequalities in mathematics and computer science in order to better understand and challenge them.
